Gotta admit that the forum system here is pretty basic with a lot of limitations. It would be nice to have a quote feature that automatically included the poster’s name. Other tools that you find in commonly used forum communities include the ability to post images, file attachments, send PMs, auto subscriptions to posts within a topic, etc.

We’ve tossed around the idea of a more complex forum platform (and it’s definitely still an option). My personal opinion is that I like to keep things nice and simple. Some of the extra features are nice, but don’t add a lot of value in my opinion.

Also, some of what you suggested (e.g., image posting) can be done. This forum currently supports Textile markup.

(Proof)

Anyways, I know this has been discussed before by others. How important is it to everyone here to have a more feature-full forum?

For me, it’s fine the way it is.

I Lost 5 Lbs!

I don’t need a traditional forum, but it would be nice if we could use more standard methods to modify our posts. I can never get the quote thing to work, and had a problem recently with lists. URLs are the only thing I can do right!

Having buttons to place the modifiers or using HTML or BBCode would all be improvements, IMO.

ETA: WAIT…did you say that we can use HTML???

ETA: I guess so! Wow, okay so um, problem solved. Maybe you should put that in the “formatting help” section that shows up when you are writing a post?

I know HTML but I’m guessing most folks don’t. I like forums where you can quote a specific member’s post and have their name automatically appear in the reply. The search feature here isn’t very helpful. For instance the other day I saw a recent post on “fasted” cardio and if I do a search for fasted I get tons of hits but the search term isn’t highlighted and there’s no listing for “fasted”, only “fast”, “fasting”, etc. Still not sure how to subscribe to topics. Would be nice to simply click the subscribe topic button and receive an email when there’s a reply or better yet have the option to automatically be subscribed to topics you create and those you post replies to.

I agree with Augie in regards to this. As Gyminee and forum participation continues to grow, there needs to be a way to keep track of conversations. Both quote and a notification feature would help.

I would also expand the notification feature to the Blog. It would be helpful to receive an email that a comment has been posted, so the Blogger can respond.
