iPhone Users - Use mail for workout note-taking

Not sure about anybody else, but I don't have the best network connectivity while @ the gym, so inputting workout data into the gyminee website via my iphone while working out slows my workouts down more than I want.

To overcome this, here is what I do:

Before I go to the gym, I select my workout in gyminee and select 'Print This Workout', which opens up in a new window.

I select the workout and paste it into an e-mail and mail it to myself.

I then check mail on my iphone and download the new e-mail I sent myself.

When I get to the gym, I open the e-mail on my iphone and select 'Reply', as if I was going to e-mail it back to myself.

I then do my workout, filling in the fields of the form as I go along.

When I am done, I send it back to myself so that when i get home I can then receive the e-mail and put the data into gyminee.

The nice thing is, I don't have to do it as soon as I get home, as I have the e-mail in my inbox, with a date/time stamp, which tells me what day I did the workout. If I wanted to, I could also e-mail it to my personal trainer.

This probably sounds like a lot of extra steps, but it is actually quite easy, once you do it a couple of times.

Use Notes

I use Notes. I have all my exercises with the weight and sets I normally do listed. When I do a set, I mark it done with an asterisk.

Yes, I have memorized my workout settings but this helps in two ways. When I decide to increase the weight setting, I am encouraged to keep it at that level on the next workout. Plus, I can track aerobic workouts more accurately.

As soon as Gyminee comes up with a native App, I'm sure I'll ditch the Notes method.

From what I understand Gyminee is working on a native app so you wont need a perfect connection to upload your progress.

Great work around though!! also hear Cut and paste is coming in an update. YES!!!

My solution

I know it sucks to go to a gym that has no wifi and poor reception to update your exercises up to gyminee's web app.

I know they are probably working on a native app for the iPhone and in the mean time you guys should try out Fit Phone. It allows you to set up a workout plan and track your results, it keeps everything on the phone so no need for internet connection.Cost $5 bucks and it works pruddy good. I used it today to track my workout, then came home and updated my Gyminee!

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/M...285741166&mt=8

Jott

I use voice-to-text service Jott (you can call in or use their iPhone app). Just dictate your workout stats and add to G later. Of course, you might be self-conscious about speaking into your phone at the gym. I think I'll head over to Jott to suggest they add Gyminee to their direct links (which would let me input workout data directly into Gyminee by voice).

You actually don't need to worry about the connection while you're at the gym. Simply select 'input progress for all exercises' before you hit the weak network spot. You can enter all your info for all your sets, etc. at once (and you don't need an active connection. Then when you leave and you have a better connection, just tap Submit to send all your data at once. I find this easier anyway than selecting each exercise separately and inputting its results.

Just my $0.02.

I pretty much do the same workout every day in the gym - I find I just need to submit the workout progress in one go (the workout being a single session on the cross trainer and a bunch of weight sets) rather then specific bits of it.

I can do this on the normal website, but the iphone site forces me to put progress in for each bit of the exercise, which is dedious. So I just use the notepad to note anything different/unusual/specfic for the day - weight, cals burned, etc) and then update gyminee when I'm back at a big screen.

I've got an ipod touch btw, but I figured I could get into this group on a waiver ;)

Great idea

I haven't used the internet yet at the gym (just joined Gyminee today). But if my internet connection is slow, I'll try this as well.

Thanks!
