Subject Description

Not I.  If you do the math, you're paying more over 24 months for the 2nd gen iPhone than for the 1st gen iPhone.  And I live in an area without 3G, so I'd be paying extra for no other reason then GPS (which is nice, but I don't need) and a sexy black back (I've always wanted my iPhone to be all black).  So yea, I'm keeping my 16gb 1st gen iPhone....Not upgrading.  How about you guys?

not at the moment.

sounds like you are forced to use at&t - contract and activation on the spot. if i can't unlock it and use it on tmobile (like my current iphone) i am definitely going to pass.

Trade-in?

I would only upgrade if I could trade-in my 1st gen. IPhone toward a 2nd gen. IPhone. The software package will be the same for both 1st & 2nd gen. Iphones. It would be nice to have the speed.

Probably Not...

I probably won't.  I have an 8GB and would love to go to a 16GB 3G, but it looks like you only get it for $299 if you sign a new contract with AT&T and since I only got my iPhone around Christmastime, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be eligable.  True GPS and faster connection are tempting, but not tempting enough to make me want to spend my money yet.  If there was a camera lens in the front to allow for video chat, or if there was a 32GB version, or if there was a significantly improved camera, or if they enabled stereo bluetooth in a new version only... then I'd probably upgrade.

I wanted to before, but I think I still like like my current one. I just wish there was more space on it.

YES.

edge sucks. i would pay the 299 just to have 3g. the regular iphone is old news, its time for an upgrade.

im just kinda let down i thought they would of switched it up a little more and added more things. MMS is a dead end technology I accept there decision not to incorporate that, but i do hope they make it easy to view those messages... I HATE HAVING TO GO TO THAT SITE TO LOOK AT A PIC SOMEONE SENT ME....

also still no copy and paste... video recording... voice commands and no other bluetooth connectivity besides their fucking ear piece.. there is a lot more you can do with bluetooth besides an ear roach.

but regardless im still gonna go get one, im glad they knocked the price and made it available in white.

prob not

they didn't do enough hardware updates for me to update.  true, 3g and gps are nice, but i think i'll wait for the next installment of the iphone to come out before i jump on it.  with the $10 increase per month in the at&t service plan, it's really not that much cheaper in the long run.  i'll probably wait till they at least upgrade the memory.

I Want Mine Now

I'll be in line Friday afternoon probably.  I'm going to give my current iPhone to my wife and get the new one right away.  She has a Treo on Sprint, which is terrible here in LA.  And I use my iPhone for email and web constantly (for work and play) so I am dying to upgrade to the 3G network.

Yea  mdefurio, it sounds like, for this generation, they are really trying to clamp down on those trying to unlock the iPhone and use it on another network so much so that they are making you sign the contract and activate it in store.

I'll admit though, I was anticipating this phone so much that I sold my first gen iPhone on eBay for more cash than I had hoped 2 days before the 3G announcement.  I swear to God: those two days without my iPhone and using my old shitty LG phone made me realize just how much I can't live without this phone anymore.  I just hated using the other phone.  Wanted my iPhone back so bad.  Once they announced the 3G iPhone, I was like "f*ck you" as I'm not extending my contract another 2 years and its pointless since there is no 3G in Lansing, MI.  Drove to an AT&T store out in Brighton, MI and bought myself a 16gb iPhone that day...lol

AT&T knows they have people by the balls.  Seriously.  Release a phone like the iPhone and then keep it exclusive to themselves and they know that once you use it, you're not going back to anything else.  I really can't see myself using any other phone in the future except for newer iterations of the iPhone and if I have to sign a new two year contract each time my old one is over, so be it.  Fuc*ing AT&T though....
