Subject Description
Howdy from Texas -
This is my first time to attempt an actual running program, and I'm taking the advice on the instructions: I walk more than jog, and I'm careful to warm up first.
I remember being a kid and running so fast that all I could hear was the wind rushing past my ears. About 20 years ago in college, I tried to run like that again and was aghast that I couldn't. All I could hear was my heavy feet pounding the ground and my own labored breathing.
These days, approaching 40, I'm not concerned about running fast. What I want to do is lose weight and increase my fitness level. But there's still that part of me that thinks being able to run fast--in an emergency, or when playing with my kids--is a crucial life skill. So I'm doing something I hate: I'm re-learning how to run.
Anyone else? Any inspiration? Any gymbuddies out there?

Hi there Howdy
It is Mic from Hong Kong, I'm 40 too and start following the 5k program last week, and now proceeding to week 2.
I've never run in the past, but want to keep in a better shape, have a healthy life to spend with my two kids.
Wish you will see this and keep running!

want to get fit using the couch - 5K too!
Hello,
I've never been much of a runner. I was always active but I've never done it regularly enough to build the stamina or muscle needed for long distances. But today I start Couch to 5K! I'm a little nervous that I won't be able to do it...but here I go anyway!
I'm 28 and from Chicagoland, by the way. :)

Hooked on running
I went though the Couch to 5k program this summer. I lost almost 35 pounds over the last year and running is an exercise that I always dredded and avoided, mostly because I was over weight.
Through other cardio, weight training, and to the largest degree, diet, I was able to loose enough weight to make running seem more attainable.
My work out partner and I were looking for a new challenge and our local community sponsors a 5K every fall, so we signed up. Then we looked for a work out program:-)
For someone who is not a runner by any stretch of the imagination, a 5K seemed like it might as well be an Iron Man. I was pleasantly suprised with the work out routine, though.
My friend and I followed the routine right up to the day before the race and we actually finished almost 5 minutes under our intial goal.
My only true goal, besides finishing the race, was to make it through all the training and race without throwing up, which I am happy to say, I accomplished!:-)
Now I am not intimidated by the treadmill and it has become a staple in my workouts. Beware, though, that running outdoors is much different than running on the treadmill. If you are training for an actual outdoor race make sure you run outside as much as possible.
