Subject Description

I love how this site lets the user input food data quite easily, however because other might use the food entry I think certain aspects should be restricted in order to make sure it is as accurate as it can be. The next user might not be nutrient savvy and base their nutritional information on incorrect information.

For instance, right now if you search "red bell pepper", the first entry is a red bell pepper with 1 serving listed for 105 calories, and this 105 calories comes from only 4 grams of fat... I don't mean to imply that users should be restricted on the content or type of food that should be posted, however I think you should put in place some kind of system that actually counts what the user is entering in, in this case if calories didn't equal 4 (grams of carbs) X 4 (calories in a gram of carb) = 12 Then an error message should come up saying something in the line of "please double check, your calories should equal the amount of fat, protein, carbs, and alcohol. Total calories should be around XXX based on 4 calories per gram of Protein...etc" Maybe even a bandwidth whould be included so that people can enter information and subtract out things like indigestible fiber, sugar alcohol etc.

I've seen a few nutritional posts with these errors and thought I would pass it on.

In the same idea.

To avoid redundancy, I think including barcode could help too.

You have a lot of popular product which are the same with different name or description but with the same nutrition facts.

It shouldn't be mandatory (fast food doesn't have barcode) but try to enforce it by explainning why it is needed for the sanity of the database.
