Damon I had the flu a couple of years ago, and after I started feeling better, I pretty much did not eat anything but water, and crackers for like a week. I just was not hungry at all. And I felt pretty good too...
Your body will tell you when it's hungry.
thanks... I hope I can get in the majority of my workouts next week. i know I'll have at least 3 days in the gym, but I might miss friday and saturday. enjoy your off week!
I feel better, but when I look at food, I have absolutely no desire to eat anything. I need to eat, but I just don't want to. The tought of eating doesn't appeal to me at all.
Great Job meeting your weight goal!
You have got to feel "On Top of the World" today. Enjoy the feeling !
Thanks for the email, your discs are on the way..
When you're sick...(info via my INSANE sports nutr
Your body will hold onto *anything* to survive. KB is on the money; you're body is workin' hard and keeping everything in that it can. It'll fall off the scale soon. :)
Damon, I hope you feel better..Prayers headed your way.. You're on for the 100 mile challenge, and It will be a challenge for me..
Does elliptical count ?
That 8 pounds is all water weight I bet..
Wow. A bunch of my coworkers got the flu shot on thursday, I think I caught the flu from them. I was down all weekend. Recovering today. I don't believe in dieting when I'm sick (just makes a bad situation worse) but somehow I managed to gain 8lbs over the weekend! That's not right!
You're lucky to have so many 24 hour gyms so close to where you live. I'm only aware of two gyms in my town that I'd consider to be real lifter gyms and one of them (Gold's) I have had serious financial issues with, so, I have to make do with what I have. :)
I always have a time with bike goals messing up. (I have a recumbent bike, but have to log it in to road bike because that's all challenges will use). Anyway, I'm FAR from my 2 mile goal for biking. I logged in .2 --- 2/10 of a mile yesterday!
I'm falling apart. My L shoulder came out of socket while I was trying to sooth my son's colic. It was the only position he was comfortable in, so I held him like that (shoulder out and all) for over an hour. Yesterday I was going to sit down and feed him, my hip popped out. I could feel the bones pulling on the screws. Don't let the look on my face fool ya, it hurt! I'm glad I waited to have kids, that way I'd be in my prime, ready for all the stresses of dealing with a baby. No, wait, I'm not. I told my wife to record me hobbling around, icing my shoulder, my hip and my knee, that way whenever he asks for any money, I'll be able to show him that I've already paid.
Thanks for the advice on my arm injury - I'll keep my eyes peeled for a brace. The Max-OT program --> I've had a read through - looks pretty good. But... the gymrats I partner (not in the biblical sense) are pretty "blinkered". However, I'm going to see if I can work around it on the bits they don't do - such as legs - not in the next few weeks though. Are you seeing results from it? Hope little Erik and "the missus" are doing well! And hope you're doing well, Mr Daddy!
I looked through the write-up for the Max-OT program and it looks awesome, but unfortunately the gym I work out in isn't suited to do this type of thing. I really lacks all the necessary machinery, has no barbells or squat rack, and has dumbbells that only go up to 50 lbs. If I can scrape up enough extra cash then I can return to the gym at the university and there I could definitely do this program.
I see you added a recipe (Ensaladilla Rusa - Spanish Potato Salad). I'm trying to figure out how to add my recipe. I see you have numerous ingredients and amounts, that appear to make a good bath of the salad. The Nutrition info says 1 serving. I'm trying to add a soup/stew. The recipe makes a BUNCH. When I enter an ingredient, like rice, to I enter the total rice in the recipe with and nutrition info, and in Serving size put the total servings the recipe makes? Or do I put the amount of rice in 1 serving (bowl) with the amounts of nutrition only for that amount? Does Gyminee then add up the nutrition amounts (%, grams, ounces, etc.) to show calories (etc) per 1 serving?
I'm regaining some of my strength. I had a bad pain in my L shoulder all weekend though. Nothing helped. It finally stopped hurting this AM after doing some squats. Don't know why that worked. Maybe b/c I hold the weights lower on my back (like power lifters do) which puts quite a bit of pressure on my shoulders and hands?
Don't get me wrong, I love it, but wow. Since bringing our son home from the hospital, a different family from our church brings us dinner every night. They bring enough food for 10 people, and it's always some form of delicious pasta, bread, cakes and pies, etc.
I wish you, your wife and your son (name?) all the best. He's going to be one lucky kid having a dad like you to raise him. Salut! May he bring your family happiness and joy. :)
Congrats on your "Crunch - cable "goal, dl!
You've got some very impressive goals you're aiming for - good luck! And, I hope none of that 7lbs in 10days was anything to do with extra portions of birthday cake?
Wow! I didn't realize just how much strength I had lost. I was doing chest today and was embarrassed by having to ask for a spotter with only 260lbs!!!! This sucks. I'll have to resist the urge to work harder, and stick with MAX-OT to recover.
Thanks for the invite/link. I'm going to look it up soon. I probably won't go for the challenge (wimping out bigtime!) as I (here come the excuses) train with 2 other people in 3 of my weekly sessions. Getting them to change will be nigh on impossible. However, if I can work around it I will... In the meantime, good luck with "the event" and also have a great birthday!
I pushed pretty hard. I was burnt after the other crap I was doing. Now after just two days doing MAX-OT, I'm not only recovering, but feeling like in another few days I'll be better than ever. I'm glad I didn't wuss out for a week before starting the new routine. If you've never tried MAX-OT, you don't really know what intensity is. I'm talking veins popping, red faced, sweating, seeing-spots intensity. If you've never been to that level, you're missing out.
Congrats on winning, or should I say dominating, THE Weight Lifting Challenge. I can't fathom all the weight you lifted. That's so awesome, way to go!!
My son is due in less than a week. My inlaws arrived from Spain in anticipation of the big event. I think we ate more yesterday than I had the entire week! I'm pretty tired after the RHC, the million in a month, and the end of THE weight lifting challenge. I think I'll only do HIT workouts this week, before I start up with MAX-OT.
The sonogram! That is amazing! I still have the scan images of our 2 sons but nowhere near the detail! Anyway, I'm not going to let my wife see, just in case...
The official due date is October 5th. That's the day before my birthday. It wasn't planned that way (by us anyway), but it's a beautiful thing. I'm going to post the last sonogram image as a progress pic.
As the delivery date nears, my wife's nesting instinct has kicked into overdrive. For the last several weeks she has alerted me on Friday that I have a long list of things to accomplish. Only problem is, I cross one off the top, and she writes two on the bottom. Sheesh! We're in the middle of Hurricane Ike, so she doesn't want me to drive to the gym, but she had me outside trimming bushes, mulching flower beds, and potting plants. I guess my son will need to have nice bushes and pretty plants when he arrives?
Ok, that's how I've been doing it too. I guess I just second-guessed it since squats and leg presses are essentially the same thing but if a person is doing leg presses and entering in the weight here then they'd be able to enter in a much larger amount since the weight they do there would be (at the very least) the weight they'd do for a squat plus their body weight. I just wanted to make sure I was being consistent with others in the challenge.
The weights I record are the weights on the bar. I don't use my weight for any lifts except on exercises like dips or pullups, where 100% of my weight is being lifted by the movement.
Do you do workouts like squats and calf raises? If so, do you enter the weight in as whatever weight you used plus your body weight, or just the weight you used?
You've been gunning it bigtime whilst I've been away! You've made such tremendous progress that no-one's going to catch you in the Weight Lifting challenge! You can afford to step back a bit and let the body recover. Go buddy go!
Congratulations on your weight loss. That's awesome! One other thing I'd like to know is how you jumped 100 pounds in flat bench press in just two weeks at the end of July. I've been struggling with boosting my flat benching weight and would like to know your secret :-P
Even though my weights are itszy-bitszy compared to yours, I know what you mean. I burned out a couple days ago. Two months is a long time for a weight lifting challenge. Although, you may be referring to the RHC. :-)
I hate deadlifting. Really. Especially deadlifting w/ only 45 seconds of rest between sets. That makes about as much sense as selling your car for gas money.
Look at all the weight you burned off in such a short time. Way to go! That's awesome.
Really wish I would have actually taken some before pics. Think I'll start now.
Replaced regular squats with hack squats. Gee-willikers Wally - I wasn't sure I'd be able to walk back the downstairs! I have a feelling this is gonna be ba-ad!
Yes, but you did it! (And you'll have a constant, painful reminder that you did it for about the next 72 hours LOL!) Seriously, way to go, man, keep with it!
especially with all that you have going. I know that there are "no excuses" but sometimes we really do need to take into account those wrenches that life throws at us.
I'm sorry to hear about your kidney... and the loss of protein powder! Good luck with doing the best that your body can do - and what is best for it!
keep it up!
Thx for the motivation! But, yes, week 3 and legs still seems to kick my butt the most, too. We're going for a walk now to try and get the circulation flowing again, lol!
I'm Erik's Dad, & Noemi's husband.
I was in the Army for 4 years, and the Marines for 8. I run fast, lift heavy, hit hard, and shoot straight.
One more thing: I'm humble too.
I've been doing so much with so little for so long, I can do anything with nothing.
