July 31

Should have done today's routine yesterday, but at least I got it in this morning. Should be easier in a couple of days when I don't have to keep looking at the computer to remember what's next!

The Cat

The cat in the picture is my buddy, Maynard. I rescued him a few years ago from some neighbors who had no business having a cat (long story). Anyway, Maynard has a particular fondness for reading what I'm reading. The day of the picture I was reading some Perry Mason stories (I'm a lawyer, so It's an occupational hazard!) Maynard really likes Erle Stanley Gardner, and I was apparently not reading fast enough for him, so he started to turn the pages by himself. I don't mind that he reads faster than I do, I just wish he wasn't such a show-off about it!

First Day

Not really the first day, just the first time trying this website. This morning I did 50 crunches, then did the hilly 2-mile track around the neighborhood. Someday I'll have to discover what the elevation changes are! It's been about 6 to 8 weeks since my last aborted attempt to keep up a walking program. I had gotten to the point last time that I could jog slowly up each of the uphill sections of my 2-mile route. Today it was a little harder, and I only jogged rarelt, but I still maintained about a 33 minute pace. That pace would probably be 6 or 8 minutes faster over two miles if I just stayed on the flat. However, the whole point of this is to be in some shape to trek through the South of England, starting five weeks from now (I know . . . why rush things!). Tomorrow, more of the same, but I will try the 3-mile "through the park" route. A few hills, but they are late in the route, so I'll see how much uphill jogging I decide to do. Have to push a little, or there won't be any progress! Wish me luck.
