Effect of Pseudoephedrine on Running

I took an Advil Cold and Sinus 1hr prior to running due to having a mild cold. This tended to cause more sweating and an elevated HR. My average HR during this workout was 178, this is a significant increase over the normal rate. My ending HR was 140, also a significant increase. Conclusion: though there was no CP during this workout, the elevated sweat, increased shin splints and higher HR are suggestive of poor practice. Don't use pseudoephedrine before a run.

Effect of rest on running

I didn't run for 3 days due to Thanksgiving and having family over. When finally running on the 4th day, the shin splints were completely gone. The relief was much better than that which was obtained w/ibuprofen.

Effect of Ibuprofen on running

I scheduled a leg workout the day before running and was quite sore. I had to this point also been experiencing some shin splints. I decided to try to attack both pain problems prior to running with a little analgesic. Since IBF was handy I tried a staged approach. I tried 2 pills 1 1/2 hours prior to running. After the first dose set in I still felt a little pain so I took another single pill 30 min prior to running. I found no problem w/pain from either the shin splints or the leg workout. This was a very effective approach to running pain control.
